Toonami Article | Analyzing The Anniversary Teaser
Frame 240:
Okay, I'm convinced this isn't the "2" robot, which means that there are at least two new huge humanoid robots coming to Toonami, and this guy's "1". This is the first one again, only from the back view. It retains the blue and yellow color scheme of TOM as well as Megas XLR. Again, I'm not saying this is TOM, but it could be somebody new. And why am I getting flashbacks of Megas while I'm watching this teaser? Are they just screwing with my head or what? Still, can't be too mad. The back keeps on smiling back at us.
It's TOM. And yes, he was "1" in the whole scheme of things. The thing about this realistic look and fluid animation is that it was created in-house at Williams Street using RenderMan, Pixar's graphics program that has become an industry standard everywhere. The animation for all the elements were fluid and lively, not to mention slightly human. The big eyes of the characters were also a nod to Pixar's history with RenderMan. The smiley face was purely that. A smiley face, not to mention a clue that the characters were going to have actual faces as opposed to just a visor.
Frame 272:
Here's the torso of something big. Maybe it's a closeup of the first robot or the midsection of the second big robot. Whatever it is, it's unlike any robot seen on the block prior to this. Still, if this is the end of TOM's reign on the block, I'm going to miss the guy. He's been at the helm for nearly eight years. He's the face of the block and has guided the block visually through the good times and the bad times. Heck, he even had to endure wearing Kids' WB-soled grids on his feet for almost a year. Still, this new steampunk atmosphere (because that's the vibe I'm feeling) intrigues me a bit.
Frame 303:
Here, we have the right hand of a robot. Again marked with the number 2, only this one's different. Perhaps this is a second "2" or the "2" is a symbol of the maker. Again, what's the significance of the number two? The paint job doesn't look as weatherbeaten as the previously seen "2" robot.
It's D again. Fun fact. Did you know that Tom Kenny, the voice of The Narrator and The Mayor on Powerpuff Girls, Heffer on Rocko's Modern Life, and the title character on Spongebob Squarepants, provdied the deep, sardonic voice of the new big guy?
Still, I wonder what's really going on with the new Toonami, because that's what I'm convinced is happening. There's going to be a new Toonami which might actually relaunch the block's graphics. I'm also not totally convinced that TOM's going to be a part of the new Toonami, which I'm kind of bummed about, but then, they've fooled me before. But what's really going on? Here are my theories:
- This new Toonami takes place on a world populated by all kinds of robots, perhaps the world last seen in Endgame.
Nope. - This new Toonami world is really the heart of New Jersey in the middle of Goat's Junkyard. Coop, Jamie, and Kiva's been keeping busy after Megas ended.
You wish, younger Jeff. For some dumb reason, Megas XLR hasn't been seen in years. Nobody has seen the characters in ages, though I have heard that Coop was seen with Hawkgirl in a house near Waverly Place.
- This world continues the Absolution universe with a displaced crew without nuclear energy resorts to having to use a new energy source.
It does continue the Absolution universe, but the origins has been shrouded in secrecy, and there are no plans to reveal how they got to this place, what happened to the Absolution, and what happened to Sara.
- A brand new continuity that nobody has ever thought of until now.
Whatever the case, I'm getting interested in this new Toonami look, and I hope the new teaser coming up will provide greater clues for the audience. Until then, later.
