The blocky fonts.
The strange metallic announcer.
The drum 'n bass soundtrack playing in the background. Quite frankly, it's giving me a warm, tingly feeling, a feeling I haven't felt since the olden days of the Revolution. Next week, the first evolution of Adult Swim begins as a three-hour action installment launches at 11 PM (though the party really starts around 9:30 PM with CN originals and Batman Beyond and continues all night long until the sun rises with Batman, Superman, and Boomeraction shows. Three hours of anime series, including three premieres (Pilot Candidate, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Gundam 0083), Cowboy Bebop, and two Toonami standards (Outlaw Star and Tenchi Muyo). This isn't Toonami, but think of it as a Toonami Edge block, and the old school feeling that this new Adult Swim Action block is emitting is sending positive vibes throughout the Toonami fanbase.
And it feels so good! Afterall, it's been a long, long, LONG time since anything has been announced at the proper Toonami on Cartoon Network. Reactor will premiere Patlabor on Monday, and the original Zoids (you know, the series that has a little fantasy in it) will premiere on Monday morning, but nothing has come out of Williams Street for future Toonami acquisitions. The only thing I've managed to get out of CN management is that the block won't be neglected for long.
No hints.
No names.
No nothing.
It's a little annoying, but silence can be a double-edged sword, though I'm assured that something new is coming very soon.
Oh, about Absolution Station . . . sorry for the delay. I've been working on a few outside projects (mainly pieces and advertisements for my Senior show in April), and it's been delayed one more week. Sorry about that. In the meantime, check out the new CNXtra article about my feelings towards the Academy Award nominations. The fact that I call the article The Golden Naked Baldheaded Man Awards should be clue number one about how I feel about the awards (though I must give them kudos on letting Alex Ross design this year's poster).
Check out the article, and I'll talk to you guys next week.
