If the show is successful and finishes its initial run, there's always the question of what's next. How do we continue the story when the series ends? There are many venues that can be taken with Superman after "Up, Up, and Away:"

There's a potential spinoff series that could be developed around the Justice League presented in the series, which included Superman, Batman, Vixen, Ion (Kyle Rayner), Flash (Wally West), and Zatanna. I know there's a need to put Wonder Woman in the series as well as Martian Manhunter, but, at least in the grand scheme, neither exists in the continuity. I am open to having them eventually join down the line. I'm also open to having Jade, Matrix, and Nuklon guest on the series, but their destinies lie solely in Metropolis. It could be a Justice League for a new generation, but right now, there's no need for a new series right now based on that concept.

A series of OVA releases could chronicle the events that happened before the series began, including Superman's first encounters with Parasite, Whisper and Abbot, and, of course, Lex Luthor in addition to his first day at the Daily Planet, the first time he met Lois and Cat, and how his relationship with the SCU matured. These releases could be released concurrently with the series run, in-between seasons and aimed towards older viewers. It could also be bonus episodes on season releases.

The former members of Team Infinity (Jade, Matrix, Nuklon, Silver Scarab [now Dr. Fate], Fury, and Skyman) could reunite for a new OVA film either as a reunion story or the "lost" missions, stories featuring the team that couldn't be told in a Superman-centric series.

Continue the series from where the final season left off. Introduce new villains and allies, return Zod back to this plane (with a new batch of Phantom Zone allies, including Brainiac), have Superman explore other worlds and other adventures.

Some potential plots:

- A Superman clone that was still incubating has grown stable, fully-powered, but in younger form. This “Super Boy” is convinced he is really Superman and confronts the “impostor” face to face.

- Leslie Willis gets a chance to return to her normal self after voluntarily turning herself in to a non-sanctioned Cadmus project. Does she return to a life of normalcy or does she continue to embrace her Live Wire persona? Her relationship with Parasite will become complicated no matter what she chooses.

- Superman is kidnapped along with other powerful beings (some we've seen like Matrix and Nuklon, some we haven't from the Earth and forced to compete in mortal combat on Warworld, overseen by a despotic overlord named Mongul.

- The Metal Brothers (John Irons, Curt Metcalf, and Shilo Norman) reunite at a conference sponsored by Alva Industries and Wayne Industries. A remnant of Brainiac's invasion is awakened and with Superman overseas, the three heroes team up take down the mechanized threat.

The 52-episode run is largely a grand plan, plotting out what should happen. If we're lucky to have a fifth season of 13 episodes or more, then the fifth season could explore the world and universe beyond Metropolis.
