Toonami 1997's Best Female Hero:
Jessie Bannon, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest
Brains, brawn, and beauty . . . a lethal combination.Until a few years before the beginning of the series, Jessica "Jessie" Bannon, only knew about her father "Race" Bannon by the tales her mother Estella told her. While her mother remained in Mexico on her archeological expositions, Jessie moved to the States with her father. Although she was close to her father, she was even closer to Dr. Benton Quest, a genius inventor who she had admired from afar. Jessie also grew close to Dr. Quest's birth son Jonny and his ward, Hadji Singh, whom she had a slight crush on. She saw both of them as brother types, though she did often find herself jealous of the women drawn to Hadji on several incidents.

Jessie was originally a tomboy and not one to play the role of the damsel in distress. She could handle her own against any madman, diabolical cyberterrorist, or mad doctor she could face. As she matured, she retained some of her tomboyish traits, though she did begin to soften into a more feminine persona, something she learned courtesy of the notorious treasure hunter "Jezebel" Jade.

In one occasion, her mind was taken over by Jeremiah Surd, a virtual cyberterrorist who was once a former domestic terrorist before exposure to a neurotoxin in his last mission turned him into a quadripelegic. He made her body do unthinkable things, including nearly killing her family. In the virtual world, she managed to overcome all of Surd's traps and confronted the villian for the final time. Jessie managed to not only regain control of her own body, but she made Surd powerless in the virtual world as well as the real world.

With a combination of brains, intestinal fortitude, and beauty, Jessie Bannon is 1997's Heroine of the Year.
