This is the final week for Toonami as you currently know it.
Do you feel fine?
After this week, say goodbye to the show considered by many fans, including myself, as last year's show of the year, Zoids: Chaotic Century, as it leaves the network lineup for a while. If they have brains in their heads, it'll be back. Maybe not on Toonami, but hopefully in a slot close to it.
Also, another Saturday Toonami block bites the dust. In the tradition of Toonami Saturday Prime, Toonami Saturday Afternoons, Toonami Midnight Run, and Toonami Rising Sun (twice), Toonami Super Saturday ends its run on Cartoon Network, this time replaced by a new action franchise starting March 1, Saturday Video Entertainment System (SVES). It's practically Toonami without the coating, but it has a whole lot of 4Kids' WB grunge infused in it that I don't like to talk about here. So, without further adieu, this week's Toonami lineup:
All Times Eastern/Pacific (those in the Central Time Zone, subtract an hour, those in the Mountain Time Zone, move [if that's too cumbersome, add an hour]):
Monday 2/17 - Friday 2/21
4 PM: Zoids: Chaotic Century (FINAL WEEK!)
4.5 PM (that's 4:30 PM to those that are new to the game): G-Gundam
5 PM: Dragonball
5.5 PM: Dragonball Z
6 PM: Batman Beyond
6.5 PM: Transformers Armada
Toonami Super Saturday 2/22 (FINAL WEEK . . . replaced by SVES 3/1)
1 PM: Masters of the Universe (becomes SVES exclusive March 1)
1.5 PM: Transformers Armada
2 PM: Dragonball Z
2.5 PM: Dragonball (becomes SVES exclusive March 1)
3 PM: .hack//SIGN (becomes SVES exclusive March 1)
3.5 PM: G-Gundam
Next week, it's the moment you've been waiting for, Giant Robot Week! The following will remain the same:
5 PM: Dragonball
5.5 PM: Dragonball Z
6 PM: Batman Beyond
6.5 PM: Transformers Armada
This is a harbinger of the following week's new lineup, which will be, once again, shortened by an hour, but I'll explain that later. During the week of February 24, G-Gundam takes a week-long vacation, just in time for Giant Robot Week (am I reading this right? A Gundam show's not on the lineup during a giant robot week? Okay . . . ). Here are the special airings in the 4-5 PM slot, scheduled to be uncut, but we'll see (not included are clips from Gigantor and the Cartoon Cartoon short Low Brow, but trust me, they'll be around!):
Monday 2/24 - Tuesday 2/25:
4 PM: Martian Successor Nadesico
4.5 PM: Neon Genesis Evangelion
2/26:
4 PM: Martian Successor Nadesico
4.5: Robotech
2/27-2/28
4 PM: Dai-Guard
4.5 PM: Robotech
On Friday, February 28, Toonami interrupts the flow of Cartoon Cartoon Friday by airing The Iron Giant at 8 PM. Starting on March 3, a new Toonami lineup begins. Yeah, we're losing an hour, but we gain a brand new series, the Toonami premiere of Yu Yu Hakusho. Whether they're going to remain TV-PG or become edited to TV-Y7 (um . . . yeah, there's a difference *cough*theratingssystemisajoke*cough*) is up in the air, so, here's the temporary new lineup:
Monday 3/3 - Friday 3/14
5 PM: G-Gundam
5.5 PM: Dragonball Z
6 PM: Yu Yu Hakusho (TOONAMI PREMIERE)
6.5 PM: Batman Beyond (becomes SVES exclusive March 15)
A month from today, Toonami turns six years old with a new look, new episodes of Dragonball Z, and a brand new series, Rurouni Kenshin. Say goodbye to the pipes, my friends, the next chapter begins on Monday, March 17:
5 PM: G-Gundam
5.5 PM: Dragonball Z (New Season)
6 PM: Yu Yu Hakusho
6.5 PM: Rurouni Kenshin (Cartoon Network US PREMIERE)
A whole lot of things are flowing down the pike, but remember, things ARE ALWAYS subject to change. Remember, just a week ago, we actually thought the new Saturday lineup would be Toonami, now look what happened. Eh, well.
Until we are one, later.
