Showcase American-made Mecha Franchises (They Do Exist, You Know)

Coop and Jamie.

They're the two heroes of the only American-made series that's airing during Giant Robot Week, Low Brow. I know that Low Brow (which became known as Megas XLR in 2004 - jh) was animated by Madhouse in South Korea, but the story was conceived in America by George and Jody. Plus, the new episodes will be produced by Cartoon Network Studios. Therefore, Low Brow is American. The only American mecha present in Giant Robot Week. Generally, mecha is limited to just Japan titles. Popular ones like Robotech, Transformers, Gundam, and Evangelion have been around for years, but American mecha titles have been around as well. Exo-Squad is the most popular American mecha series, but there have been others in recent years. The mecha-heavy Roughnecks: Starship Troopers and Heavy Gear has come and gone in this country without much notice. Funny thing is that in this country, many people didn't even know these shows were on the air, probably because these shows were limited to early-morning hours.

Sounds familiar?

A whole lot of shows that came to Toonami were virtually ignored when they were in their original syndication run. Wouldn't it be a treat to see some of the finest North American-made mecha titles side by side with the best Japan can offer? And if Cartoon Network was so anxious to spend a little bit of change for anime titles if they were going to show them one time only, why wouldn't they spend money on American-made mecha titles?

Now this would be the ideal Giant Robot Week event.
