40 - 41: Justice
The United Nations building is under lockdown as a group of terrorist calling themselves KOBRA is holding the delegates hostage. Superman and a team of heroes including several familiar ones) assemble and bring the terrorists out. Luthor sees the assault as problematic for his campaign until he turns it on its side.A team assembles in New York City. I hesitate in calling them the Justice League because they happened to team up out of convenience, not out of planning. Vixen, who's a noted biomechanical theorist, is hosting a symposium at the UN. Ion lives there as a graphic designer and comic artist for a major publisher. Jade, Nuklon, and Matrix were on vacation, with Jade visiting her boyfriend Kyle (Ion). Zatanna is performing at Carnegie Hall to a sell-out crowd. Batman has been monitoring KOBRA's plans for quite a while and pinpointed their next target. The Flash has been doing likewise, but in his own way. Superman is the last on the scene but the first to organize his team of heroes. This will be Batman's second time on the series, and the first appearances of Vixen, Ion, Flash, and Zatanna.
42: The Ultimate Answer
Prankster and Mr. Mxyzptlk travel through time and dimensions to witness the origins of Superman and realize they don't know which dimension they're really in. Traci Thirteen follows the troublesome duo because, as she puts it, they're idiots. Meanwhile, in our world, Clark spends a rare day off with Lois while struggling to find a perfect way to ask her a simple yet complicated question.Half the episode is the dimension-hopping elements I discussed earlier in full. The other half is Clark trying to propose to Lois.
43: Ascension
Lex Luthor wins the election to become president of the United States and immediately tries to sever his ties to Intergang, much to the team's surprise. That night, the SCU investigates a break-in at Luthor's warehouse.
44: A Day In The Life of Jimmy Olsen
From the time that he wakes up to the time he goes to bed, the boring, action-packed day of copy-editor/photojournalist/fill-in kids' host/delivery boy Jimmy Olsen.Jimmy Olsen is the most human of the characters on the series. He's a genuinely good guy surrounded by heroes, villains, media personalities, and business moguls. In this episode, he wakes up, catches the monorail (seeing a fight between Jade and Guardian against Toyman's latest toy soldiers), fixes the coffee for the entire office, heads to a robbery scene with Lois, encounters the president-elect while eating a celebratory dinner, sees and helps out Superman in his fight against Metallo, bumps into Clark (who asks Jimmy to be his best man at the wedding), meets Lois' sister Lucy for the first time, heads home, and wonders how he got such a good life.
45: The Promise
Clark marries Lois at the Smallville church where his mother married his father. President-elect Luthor arrives in Washington and meets with an old friend, much to his delight.
46. Inauguration
Lex Luthor takes the Presidential Oath and becomes the nation's newest president. Superman reluctantly supports his longtime nemesis. What do you do when the man you spent a good part of your heroic career trying to bring down ascends to the highest office in the land? Do you fight the system and declare a war on the President and becoming public enemy number one, or do you relent on the mission, let the will of the people prevail while keeping a close eye on him? Superman chooses the latter and takes Luthor at his word. He knows that Luthor is up to something.
47: Serpent's Tale
Whisper and Abbot, now completely severed from Intergang, take on a mission for their old ally, David Cain, to find his daughter, Cassandra, who was kidnapped by their former employer, Ra's al Ghul, and ask for Superman and Traci Thirteen's help in the search. This is the third spotlight episode of Whisper and Abbot as well as a glimpse into their former lives as members of the League of Assassins. Cassandra Cain had been known as another name in the DC Universe, Batgirl. In this episode, she's not a teenager but rather a little girl. She is already gifted with her fighting abilities.
48: Last Day
Detective Turpin goes on one last mission before he retires. He has no idea what kind of chaos he'll have to face before the day ends.
49: Kismet
The harbinger records her recent conversation with Superman, realizing he has come so far in such a short time and prepared for the final battle. President Luthor is attacked by an otherworldly being warning him that his upcoming actions will be a fatal mistake for the entire Earth. This is the final appearance of Harbinger and the only appearance of Kismet, the protector of the universe. This series will also have a brief cameo by Doctor Fate, who is not only more proficient with his abilities but has also created a link between his mind and the world he left behind. He senses the danger to come.
50 - 52: Finale
The final three episodes of Superman.
50: The American Way
President Luthor (in a secret alliance with General Zod and Darkseid) plans an assault on Superman's friends and allies hoping to bring the hero out.
51: The Neverending Battle
Lex Luthor's plans are exposed and the public revolts. Zod and his army become the target of Steel and the SCU, Guardian and Team Infinity, and . . . Intergang? Fate also intervenes in the battle. While in the middle of Death Valley, Superman takes on Darkseid for the final time.
52: Up, Up, and Away
Superman displays powers and strength he never had before, and Darkseid's the sole witness to the display. After the dust settles, the world changes for the victor, and a new era begins and a story ends. The end of the initial 52 episodes will have Superman and Darkseid's ultimate battle. Everything from Boss Dark Side's first appearance to the first fight between the two at the end of season three has been leading up to this moment, and the Man of Steel will end up victorious. The aftermath of the arrest and immediate resignation of President Luthor, the installment of President Horne, who revives Cadmus under the direction of the NSA, and the great Metropolis War, which the former members of Intergang are in the uncomfortable role of heroes.
Team Infinity decides to part ways. Nuklon and Matrix remain in Metropolis as Guardians of Metropolis. Skyman retires, Dr. Fate and Lyta take care of their son, Daniel, before visiting his parents, and Jade goes on vacation with her boyfriend vowing to return after she visits with her dad.
Life pretty much returns to normal for the most part. Edge returns to the airwaves alongside a new co-host, Cat Grant. New reporters begin their stints at the Planet. Olsen gets a new errand girl of his own as a reporter. Lois and Clark spend a rare quiet rooftop moment at the top of the Daily Planet where they plan for their future, aware of the risks of his job, and the ties that bind them together. A new enemy, a figure with a glowing yellow skull for a head, is sighted robbing the naval yards. With a kiss, Superman bids Lois goodbye, and flies towards the yards ready to punch out the criminal.
Show ends.
Dedicated to those that made us all believe a man could fly. Today. Tomorrow. Forever.
Credits roll.
