"It's time for a revolution."
I've mentioned the word "revolution" multiple times throughout the decade I've been talking about Toonami. As the founder and one of the core members of the Toonami Inner Circle Alliance, I've been a part of many fights. There have been campaigns to make a mark on the Toonami block and a scar on Cartoon Network's psyche. Some we knew were completely out of orbit (like that campaign to make Kids' WB admit that Toonami was also seen on Cartoon Network) and others were more feasible (like the 24-hour showcase of Toonami programming TICA asked for back in '99 [seen as Full Cycle in 2000], the campaign to return older shows to the lineup in October '98 [fulfilled in July 1999 when Midnight Run launched], that nagging request to convience Cartoon Network to launch a Toonami-based network [it became a reality in the UK in October 2002 as CNX, renamed Toonami shortly before it folded after idiotic business decisions to turn it into a general entertainment children's network, mistakes Cartoon Network in the States are doing as well]. and the 2003 campaign to give Toonami Saturday nights and change the core of the demographics [fulfilled in February 2004 with the announcement of a relaunched Toonami, though the weekday Toonami was sacrificed as a result]).
In 2008, it's not a particular change we want on Toonami. We, the Toonami Inner Circle Alliance, want Toonami to return to the status of the decade-old action franchise to being the home of the finest action cartoons on the planet, including returning the full four-hour Saturday night lineup and more promotion for non-Naruto action shows. We want Cartoon Network to acknowledge Toonami's existance as well as its role in the survival of Cartoon Network. We want a more diverse lineup featuring more mature programming and not just the latest anime fad. We want Toonami to be the first thought in action on Cartoon Network, not an afterthought.
In short, we, the Uncounted Majority of viewers, want Toonami to be what the promos made it out to be . . . a better cartoon show.
The Alliance aren't going crazy in our demands. We know there are a few kinks that need to be repaired, both within the block and the network where the block makes its daily transmission. We know there is some life left in the Toonami for years, even decades to come. However, it seems that Cartoon Network would rather Toonami to just rot away with the audience not even caring anymore. People mock the "Toonami faithful" for being loyal to a brand rather than just the shows, but truth be told, those fans are the ones who kept Toonami afloat all these years, and we're the ones to remind Cartoon Network that we not only exist, but we're growing.
It's time for some changes. It's time for a revolution.
Here's what we want in detail.
