Toonami 1997: Show of the Year:
The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest
The best show of 1997 on Toonami. The second generation of Toonami fans felt that this show hindered Toonami's growth. Of course, when you realize that the network cancelled the series because of a different of philosophies, it did make sense to remove it from the block. However, as much as people wanted to hate on the series, one who has actually seen all the episodes without an anti-American animation bias will realize one absolute truth.

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest was a hell of a great show.

It was the most mature series on Toonami up until 2000 when Gundam Wing premiered. With stories that was full of action and adventure, you could almost say that Toonami was built for this show. With stories that explored paranormal activity, strange underwater creatures, Prisoner-esque villages, and the usual globetrekking adventures the franchise was famous for, it should have set a standard for action-animation for the 21st century. Unfortunately, it was cancelled after 52 episodes, the equivalent of four 13-episode seasons, which was condensed into a year-long run. In the duration of its two-year run on Toonami, it was treated with much disdain by a lot of the viewers, which is a shame because if you actually looked at the series, it actually ranks up there in the list of the top five shows to ever air on the block. I'm one of the few Toonami fans that actually respected the hard work and talent that went into the show's production, which is why I'm proud to call it the best show of 1997.
