Best Male Hero:
Kiyo and Zatch Bell, Zatch Bell
2005 has seen the introduction of many heroes with a Y chromosome. Monkey D. Luffy. Zolo. Captain Marvel. The Batman (not to be confused with Batman). Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo. Kid Flash. Gasser. Naruto. Sasuke. Toonami has also seen many older heroes make an impact. Robin. Goku. Superman. Batman. Shobu. Yugi Moto. Flash. So, why would I give the nod of Best Male Hero to the duo that defended their corner of the block for most of the year?
Because they've actually worked hard most of the year almost non-stop. Also, they've actually acted heroic on numerous occasions while growing into the role of heroes. As much as I loved Naruto, the lead male characters are still learning the trade, which will make them greater characters as they evolve. And being a sportsman doesn't make you a hero. Charles Barkley will tell you that. And Bobo . . . well, he's just touched.
What I liked about Zatch and Kiyo is that they're two halves of the same person fighting as one. Kiyo is level-headed, booksmart, and a little shy about girls. Zatch is wild, goofy, and very innocent, not unlike Goku on the original Dragon Ball. They teach each other a lot as the series continues. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with, fighting similar human/mamodo teams that aren't as cohesive as the good guys. They fight other mamodos to become the king of them all, not unlike the Highlander saga. Kiyo and Zatch fight as one because they are one hero, which is why I'm naming them the Best Male Hero of 2005.
